Drugs were found on a woman who was seen by police writing on the Roeding Heights Park bathroom wall on Wednesday evening, May 4.

Ceres Police Lt. James Yandell was patrolling the area around the park at 5:39 p.m. and saw Christine Peterson, 23, of Hayward, marking on the wall of the restroom. When he asked why she was doing it, Peterson stated she was leaving a memorial for her grandmother who recently departed. Lt. Yandell searched Peterson and located methamphetamine and a pipe used for smoking it.

He arrested and booked her for vandalism, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Another citizen told police that Peterson had placed a dead cat on a barbecue grill at the park. The dead cat was found and disposed of.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber said officers will be patrolling the park more frequently due to reports of mischievous activity. He said residents are encouraged to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
