The 36-year-old man with arrest warrants believed he could escape Ceres Police during a Sunday evening traffic stop but ended up going to jail anyway.

At 10:22 p.m., Officer Jonathan Blount stopped a gray Honda van at El Camino Avenue and Service Road because it had false license plate tabs. Officer Blount obtained the driver’s licenses of both driver Monica Loya, 37, and passenger Sammy Flores, 36, and returned to his vehicle to run them into the system when Flores ran from the car toward the Walmart Supercenter. 

Officer Blount chased after Flores, who ignored commands to stop. The chase went into the Walmart parking lot and ended when Officer Blount caught Flores near the front entrance.

Flores garnered a new charge of resisting arrest and probation violation.
