Police pursuit ends in arrest days later

Slipping away from police following a pursuit doesn’t necessarily mean the driver gets away with it. Just ask Florentino Jimenez, 33, of Modesto who went to bed hours after leading Ceres Police on a chase where he got away.

Ceres Police Sergeant Vince Hooper attempted to pull over Jimenez at 11:46 p.m. but he fled, leading police on a pursuit into Modesto. The driver was able to evade officers but the license plate number helped identify him. Ceres Police obtained an arrest warrant for Jimenez and a warrant for the vehicle to be impounded for 30 days.

The California Highway Patrol alerted Ceres Police on Dec. 8 that the vehicle was spotted parked in the 900 block of Pecos Avenue in south Modesto. Officers located the unoccupied vehicle and were able to get Jimenez to surrender. Jimenez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on felony charges of fleeing a peace officer.

The Ceres Police Department reminds all drivers that failure to yield to emergency vehicles can result in a vehicle being impounded and charged with a felony even days after the incident.
