Police seek driver who led them on chase
Ceres Cop Car

Police have identified the elusive driver who led them on a high-speed chase Friday evening and was able to escape arrest.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said Joshua Hopper, 24, of Modesto, is wanted for charges of leading police officers on a pursuit.

The chase began at 7:44 p.m. in the 3700 block of Mitchell Road when officers were searching for a reported reckless driver. While searching for that driver, an officer saw another car zip past him at a high rate of speed. The police officer attempted to catch up with the southbound car, but the driver failed to pull over. Instead the chase went onto northbound Highway 99 reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. Hopper then pulled off at the Hatch Road exit and sped down eastbound Hatch Road where it then turned onto Wallin Way where the driver bailed on foot. Police set up a perimeter but could not locate Hopper.

Pursuit charges await him.
