A Ceres man was arrested Monday, June 22, and charged with rape after two men came to the female victim's aid in an alleyway in the 1900 block of Darrah Street at Lois Way.

Police were called at 7:45 a.m. regarding reports of men fighting in the alley. An officer arrived and found a woman who said she was raped and pointed out the suspect, Alfred Sobotka, 32, of Ceres. The officer learned that the males who had been "fighting" were actually confronting the suspect.

Sobotka admitted having sex but said he believed it was a consensual act. He was arrested and booked on the rape charge.
