Reckless driver found with drugs

Darren Thornhill, 47, of Ceres, was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 24 during a traffic stop where drugs where found after he was spotted speeding on the streets of Ceres.

An officer spotted Thornhill driving at a high rate of speed at 11:24 p.m. and spinning his tires in the area of Fowler Road and Darwin Avenue. He was pulled over for unsafe driving. Officers tried to search Thornhill and his car because he is on probation and searchable but he would not comply and reached for his pocket. Officers had to take Thornhill to the ground to secure him and ended up using a Taser gun to stun him into submission.

After he was secured in the back of a patrol car, Thornhill's vehicle was searched and found to contain a small bag of methamphetamine, and hydrocodone not prescribed to him.

He was taken to the County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled subscription, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
