A 23-year-old Modesto man was arrested for drunken driving after recklessly driving the streets of Ceres and speeding away from a police officer early Monday morning.

At 2:10 a.m. Officer Charles Rushing saw a Toyota Tundra speeding northbound on Morgan Road near Whitmore Avenue and swerving from the northbound lane to the turn lane and back into the northbound lane.  The driver made an abrupt turn into and through the McDonald’s parking lot while screeching tires before getting onto westbound Whitmore Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Rushing pulled in behind the violator and attempted to make a traffic stop but Mauro Torres, 23, of Modesto refused to stop while traveling slowly. He made a turn onto northbound Crowslanding Road and turned right onto eastbound Flamingo Drive where he finally yielded.

Torres appeared to be intoxicated, which was proven by failing a series of field sobriety tests. Torres arrested for driving under the influence.
