A 41-year-old Riverbank man was jailed for drunken driving early Friday after he rolled his BMW onto its roof in the roundabout at Morgan Road and Aristocrat Drive.
Officers were dispatched to the crash at 2:38 a.m. Police believe that the driver, Wilber Manuel Salgado, struck the roundabout and caused the car to overturn.
Sgt. Vince Hooper was first on scene and extracted Salgado from the car. As officers investigated, it became evident to them that Salgado was under influence of an alcoholic beverage. Ceres Police Department spokesman Freddie Ortiz said that after a DUI investigation was completed, Salgado was arrested and transported to a local hospital for a booking clearance and an evidentiary blood draw. Salgado was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for DUI.
Salgado, a Modesto attorney, told the Courier that there was no evidence that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
