Sam Avenue shooting lands man in hospital

Sheriff’s detectives are delving into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a man on Sam Avenue just outside of Ceres which sent him to the hospital for the treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting was reported at 4:20 a.m. on Monday when a woman called to say her husband had been shot. The 27-year-old victim was shot outside in the 1200 block of Sam Avenue.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Luke Schwartz said it appears there was a short exchange of gunfire between the victim and another party. Authorities are not sure if the other person was hit.

When deputies arrived they found the man conscious and alert and began medical aid attention until paramedics arrived. He was treated at a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.

Schwartz was unable to explain a reason for the shooting or if the two parties exchanging gunfire knew each other.

Sam Avenue is located off of Herndon Road north of Hatch Road just outside the Ceres city limits.
