The Stanislaus county Sheriff's Department is warning of a scam targeting area residents that uses a caller claiming to be a member of the sheriff's department.

In the scam a caller identifying himself as "Lt. Haines" tells people they have a warrant out for their arrest because they missed a jury summons.

"If you receive a call from this person it is a scam and the caller is most likely trying to get you to pay them money," the sheriff's department stated on their Facebook page.

The number the caller is calling from is 322-9439.

The sheriff's department does not collect money for the Jury Commissioner.

The scam has been reported in other vicinities and is one that reoccurs with some frequency.

Anyone receiving one of these calls should report it to the sheriff's department at 525-7114.
