An incident of domestic violence, in which a gun was discharged, prompted a temporary closure of Highway 99 while the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol searched for the suspect.

The suspect was eventually located in Keyes and taken into custody Wednesday morning. The suspect was identified as Miguel Morales Delasantos, 19, of Keyes.

The incident began around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 when a 911 call was placed reporting an escalating family fight at a residence in the 5300 Block of 7th Street in Keyes.

The sheriff's department responded to the call and learned that Delasantos had allegedly fired the firearm inside the home in front of his family members. He had fled the residence with the firearm prior to the sheriff's deputies arrival, said Sheriff's Department spokesperson Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

Sheriff's deputies, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, set up a perimeter around the area, including a portion of northbound Highway 99, near the Keyes Road overpass.

The Sheriff's Office SWAT team was training and responded to assist patrol deputies in searching for Delasantos. SWAT began searching the oleander bushes on the east side of Highway 99 when Delasantos left his hiding spot and began running northbound toward the Keyes Post Office, where he was taken into custody by deputies without incident.

Law enforcement continued to search for the firearm, but it was not located, Bejaran said.

Delasantos was arrested for domestic violence and negligent discharge of a firearm.
