A 41-year-old Modesto woman was arrested Saturday afternoon when an officer spotted her and a man riding against traffic on bicycles and was searched and found with a sawed-off rifle in her purse.

At 4:18 p.m. Officer Kiashira Ruiz was patrolling in the area of Herndon and Nadine when she saw the two riding bikes in an illegal and unsafe manner. After she stopped them they agreed to a consensual search and found with a .22 Remington rifle in her purse. The barrel and stock had been cut short enough to fit inside of it.

Brandy Geren was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
