A 24-year-old driver was arrested early Friday after a police officer stopped him for speeding and was found intoxicated and carrying a loaded firearm.

At 1:45 a.m., Officer Jeffery Godfrey spotted a Nissan Altima speeding in a residential area near Brown Avenue and Tranquil Avenue and stopped driver Kenneth Campbell, 24, in the 3800 block of Granite Falls Drive. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. After a DUI investigation was complete, Campbell was arrested for DUI.

During a search, officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun on Campbell, who does not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of DUI and illegally carrying a concealed firearm.
