Stolen car recovered quickly, two suspects arrested

Driver Gonzalo Garcia Carranza, 21, of Modesto (left) and passenger Octavio Reyes, 20, of Ceres, were arrested and charged with auto theft.

A Toyota Camry reported stolen Monday morning was recovered about an hour later by a Ceres Police officer who spotted it and also arrested the suspected auto thieves driving the car.

Ceres Police took a report of the stolen car at 7:59 a.m. and Officer Eric Souza began to immediately search for it. He spotted the stolen Toyota at 9:02 a.m. traveling on South Seventh Street in south Modesto. Officer Souza followed the Camry which made an abrupt turn into a business in the 600 block of Crows Landing Road. Officer Souza contacted driver, Gonzalo Garcia Carranza, 21, of Modesto and passenger Octavio Reyes, 20, of Ceres, and arrested them.

Through the investigation, it was determined that Carranza was on probation and had a license suspended for DUI. He was charged with auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a license suspended for DUI and a probation violation.

Reyes was arrested on charges of auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle and both were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
