A student from Endeavor High School sustained serious injuries Monday afternoon when he was stabbed during a fight with a Ceres High School student now up for charges of attempted murder.

The victim was reportedly in serious but stable condition after he underwent surgery.

The teens, both 15, squared off in a flight at around 2:53 p.m. According to witnesses who talked to police, the Endeavor High student confronted the Ceres High School student on the Ceres High campus. Investigators determined that both used to be friends but the Endeavor student made the confrontation over the posting of a video on social media. The two got into fist fight, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber, but it was broken up by other students. The two went separate ways but met up on Fifth Street. Police are unsure if the second confrontation was coincidental or arranged.
Witnesses told police that the Ceres High School student produced a folding pocket knife and charged at the Endeavor student, stabbing him in the abdomen.

The alleged assailant was located a few blocks from the scene and arrested on the charge of attempted murder. The knife used in the stabbing was collected as evidence.
The identities of the involved students are not being released because they are minors.

"The Ceres Unified School District has been more than cooperative during this investigation," said Sgt. Berber.
