Suspect arrested days after carjacking mom's vehicle
Ceres Cop Car

A Ceres man was arrested Wednesday days after he allegedly carjacked his mother's car during a ride as a passenger.

According to Ceres Police, Alex Arreola was riding in his mother's car at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14. His mother was driving to his home in Ceres and other passengers included two young siblings. During the ride Arreola threatened to take her vehicle but when she refused to give up the car, he told her he had a gun and would press the gun to the side of her head if she did not give him the keys. Fearing for the safety of herself and the kids, she gave Arreola the keys and got out with the children, police said. The suspect took off with the vehicle. His mother was adamant about pressing charges against her son and because of his violent past and an extensive criminal history.

Police issued a Be On the Lookout for Arreola. An officer with the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Taskforce (StanCATT) spotted Arreola behind Sumary Market on Herndon Road at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19 and arrested him. Detectives interviewed Arreola and booked him into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of carjacking and auto theft.
