A Modesto teenager faces multiple charges after he allegedly broke into a Ceres home and took the owner's car keys and car on Thursday.

The victim resident in the 3500 block of Wild Oak Drive called 9-1-1 at 12:03 p.m. after discovering that someone entered his home sometime between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. through an unlocked front door and took his car keys, wallet, and cell phone from top of the bedroom dresser as he slept. The victim then noticed his silver 2003 Dodge Neon was missing from the driveway. He told Ceres Police Officer Vince Hooper that he suspected two unknown black males whom he had partied with the night before.

Later at 8:54 p.m. Officer Hooper was patrolling the area of Wild Oak and Wise Oak when he saw the stolen Dodge Neon being driven. Officer Hooper caught up to the vehicle as it turned into the driveway of 2205 Copperwood Lane. The driver, Silas Edward Scott, 19, of Modesto, exited the car and was ordered to drop to the ground but refused, and escaped on foot instead. Three occupants left in the car were detained but later released.

The stolen keys were in the car ignition. Both were returned to the owner.

Meanwhile, Officer Hooper was able to confirm through a booking photograph that Scott was the suspect who fled. Scott had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was on probation for auto theft and possession of stolen property.

At 11:01 p.m. several residents of 2809 Della Drive called 9-1-1 to report a black man in his 20''s prowling inside the apartment complex about a half-mile from where Scott had fled. Their description of his clothing matched what Scott was wearing when he fled Officer Hooper. Citizens pointed out where Scott was hiding. Officer Hooper along with Officer Coey Henson and his K9 Dex approached Scott and ordered him to the ground at which time he complied and was arrested. Scott attempted to lie about his identity however fingerprints taken at the jail confirmed he was Scott. He refused to provide a statement to police.

Scott was booked on several felony charges of residential burglary, auto theft, possession of stolen property, probation violation, resisting arrest, and providing a false name to law enforcement.
