A man who was driving a stolen vehicle managed to escape from Ceres police on Tuesday evening, August 13 but the car was recovered.

At 10:55 p.m. Sgt. Vince Hooper saw that the tail lights of a red Acura pulling into the Walmart parking lot were not functioning. Sgt. Hooper ran the license plate through DMV and learned it had been stolen in Manteca. When the sergeant turned on his emergency lights the driver took off running westbound through the parking lot. Sgt. Hooper alerted other officers but none were in the immediate area and the suspect eluded capture.

The car was returned to its owner.
