Teen with gun leaves crash scene, cited to parents

A 16-year-old who had a gun as he ran from the scene of a hit-and-run crash at Whitmore and Rockefeller avenues Thursday morning was cited for possession of a firearm and released to a parent.

Three people suffered minor injuries in the accident.

The crash was reported at 7:25 a.m. with two males fleeing the car. A citizen followed the two and saw one of them throwing items in a bush. Officers located two 16-year-olds in the 1900 block of Rockefeller. One of the juveniles was found with a .22-caliber handgun in his waistband. Officers checked the area but did not find any items possibly thrown.
