Alert citizens aided deputies to arrest three persons Monday morning, Jan. 10 who were stealing mail in Hughson. 

Maria Magana, 31, Andrew Chan, 30, and Rudy Vargas, 29, all of Modesto, were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for conspiracy to commit a crime, vandalism, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen mail.

A citizen saw what he suspected was mail theft in the 6500 block of Graybark Lane and reported it at approximately 4 a.m. The suspects left in a black Cadillac SUV which was pulled over in a short amount of time by Hughson Police Services deputies. During the traffic stop, the deputy could see mail and a prybar inside the car. When questioned, all three suspects admitted to breaking into cluster mailboxes using a pry bar to gain access to mail.
