A 71-year-old man was struck in the head with a metal pipe Friday afternoon with the two accused suspects apprehended a short distance away.

At 12:12 p.m. on Friday someone called 9-1-1 to report that two Hispanic males tried to kick in the door of the man's house and then struck him in the head with a metal pipe. Officers arrived and found the victim on the floor with a head injury. Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Coley was unable to ascertain if the attack occurred inside or outside the man's house in the 1900 block of Darrah Street.

The suspects fled the scene but were apprehended by police a short time later at Central Avenue and Sequoia Street. Arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion were Gabriel Meza, 22, of Riverbank, and a 17-year-old boy from Modesto.
