Two killed in Inyo Avenue shootings

Two persons were shot to death and one critically injured in a Thursday morning incident at a home in the 800 block of Inyo Avenue in south Modesto.

The shooting was reported at approximately 5 a.m. after a 46-year-old Hispanic man ran to a neighbor’s house after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital by medical personnel and later to an out-of-county facility for further treatment.

When Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies arrived, the victim said his brother shot him.

Deputies surrounded the home where the shooting occurred and evacuated the neighborhood. Not knowing the dangers the shooter posed to deputies, SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team members were called in to assist. For about two hours, deputies used a PA system in an attempt to contact anyone inside the house but there was no response.

When SWAT entered the home they found an elderly Hispanic female and Jason Flores, 41, shot to death.

Positive identification of the female could not yet be determined.

The initial victim is currently in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. All three victims appear to be family members who live in the home together.

The Sheriff’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene units are investigating the deadly shootings.
