Two men in their 20s were arrested by Ceres Police on Thursday evening after their alleged burglary attempt was interrupted at StoreQuest self-storage facility at 3201 Hatch Road.
At 9:38 p.m., Officer Lorenzo Beltran responded to a report about two men inside the storage facility yard who ran after being called. Dalton Scales, 24, of Modesto stopped in his tracks and was arrested while the other suspect, 29-year-old Texas resident Ricky Holt attempted to hide on top of one of the storage units. With the assistance of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, Holt was located and arrested. Police say that Holt had discarded a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine during his time hiding atop the storage unit.
Holt was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and burglary.
Scales, who was on probation and wanted for prior property damage charges, was booked for being a felon in possession of ammunition, burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, vandalism, probation violation along three felony warrants for his arrest. Because he initially gave police somebody else’s name, he was charged with impersonating another person.
Both were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
