A 24-year-old Waterford man was arrested Saturday morning for driving under the influence of marijuana.

Officer Coey Henson was on patrol in the area of Service and Mitchell roads at12:28 a.m. when he spotted a car being driven in reverse in the westbound lane of Service Road east of Mitchell Road. The vehicle attempted to turn into the AM/PM gas station on Mitchel Road while driving in reverse and hit a light pole on the west side entrance.

Officer Henson asked driver Shannon Wayne Dunkirk of Waterford for his license.  Dunkirk handed his cell phone to Officer Henson instead.  He realized he had his phone then put the phone down and grabbed his wallet which was in the center console.

Henson noticed Dunkirk displayed signs and symptoms of impairment to include bloodshot, watery eyes, his speech was slurred, and his eyelids half shut. Officer Henson questioned Dunkirk regarding his state of impairment. Dunkirk denied drinking but said he had smoked marijuana.

Dunkirk failed a sobriety test and was arrested and submitted to a blood draw at Doctors Medical Center.  Dunkirk was then booked for DUI.
