Driver crashes onto 99

Ceres Police say that an intoxicated Modesto woman is lucky to be alive after plowing her car through a chain link fence and oleander bushes to wind up on the freeway early Thursday morning.

Leticia Sanchez, 28, was taken into custody at 1:52 a.m. on Thursday.

Ceres patrolmen Randy Moore and Lorenzo Beltran were eastbound on Evans Road when an approaching westbound vehicle was coming at them as it straddled the center line. The driving officer averted a collision and flipped around to follow Sanchez. They saw Sanchez run through the stop sign at El Camino and Evans and proceed to drive through the chain link fence and vegetation, onto northound 99.

Sanchez was taken off the freeway and arrested. Reeking of alcohol, she told officers she thought she was taking the onramp.
