Keyes boy falls under pickup tires

A Keyes toddler sustained major injuries Sunday evening when he fell under the wheesl of a trailer his mother was towing with a pickup.

The California Highway Patrol said that the two-year-old Elias Barrera, was rushed to U.C. Medical Center in Sacramento.

The mishap occurred on Esmar Road at 5:42 p.m. Virginia Barrera, 37, of Ceres, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup and towing a utility trailer on a dirt road toward the rear of the house when she saw her son walking. She stopped the pickup next to Elias and hold him to move away. The boy began walking away from the vehicle and Mrs. Barrera got back in the truck and drove forward. When she moved forward an estimated 50 feet and got out, she saw the boy lying on the ground next to the left side of the trailer's wheels.

She picked up the injured child and had 911 called.
