The body of a partially clothed man was found in the Ceres Main Canal Sunday evening and authorities are now trying to learn about his last moments and cause of death.

The body of Luis Armando Anguiano, a 36-year-old father of five, was spotted drifting under the water surface by persons walking along the canal in the 3000 block of Moore Road. They called 911 to report the finding at approximately 6 p.m.

Ceres Police officers rushed to the scene and assisted Modesto firefighters and local paramedics in pulling Anguiano from the water. He was pronounced dead at approximately 6:24 p.m.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office took the body for a forensic examination while Ceres Police detectives launched an active investigation. The coroner’s office had not determined if the death was a drowning as of Tuesday. They did not confirm where the victim was living but believed it was Modesto.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to “help us honor his life and provide him with the dignity he deserves. Luis was deeply loved by all who knew him, and your kindness and generosity during this difficult time mean a great deal to us.”
