Off-duty Ceres firefighters will spend nearly eight hours on Saturday, Oct. 18 stopping Mitchell Road traffic temporarily asking motorists to "Fill the Boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The charity collection will be staged at the traffic signal to In Shape City on Mitchell Road beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Last year the effort collected over $12,600 for the MDA, a non-profit health agency dedicated to curing MD by funding worldwide research. The MDA also puts on special weeklong summer camps for children afflicted with the disease. With muscular dystrophy, muscles get progressively weaker. Symptoms range "from mild muscle weakness to complete paralysis of all voluntary muscles, including those used for breathing and swallowing," according to the MDA's website.
Those who are unable to attend the drive-through event, but would still like to make a donation may visit http://www2.mda.org/goto/CeresFilltheBoot and make a donation online. Donations are accepted by Ceres firefighters at any Ceres Fire Station. Be sure to tell the firefighters that the donation is for the Fill The Boot for the M.D.A.
