The Ceres Garden Club is accepting new members and welcomes guests to attend the next meeting set for Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth Street, Ceres. The meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. with refreshments and a social time followed by the speaker of the month and the monthly club meeting.

Members are active in the Valley Lode District of California Garden Clubs, Inc., as well as supporting state projects. The club hosts a district meeting every three years.

The Ceres Garden Club will also be hosting its 16th annual fundraising luncheon.

The Ceres Garden Club contributed many community projects to beautify Ceres. Those projects have included: the Blue Star Memorial placed at the Ceres Community Center, and working on the gardens of the Daniel Whitmore Home at 2928 Fifth Street, the Clinton Whitmore Mansion entrance gardens and the landscaping at the entrance of the Ceres River Bluff Regional Park. The club also hosts the annual Whitmore Park Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and helps put on the annual Arbor Day observance staged at various schools. Recently the club made possible the Let Freedom Ring grove at Smyrna Park memorializing America's presidents.

Members also contribute financially to the Penny Pines National Forest Plantations, the Junior Garden Club Program and the Stanislaus County Fair Flower Beautification Project.
