A Ceres Police officer assigned as a School Resource Officer at Blaker-Kinser Junior High School sustained a gunshot wound from her own service weapon this afternoon.
The wound was not life threatening and no others were injured. At the time of the incident, summer school had concluded for the day and only a limited number of students and staff remained on campus on Kinser Road. No students or staff members were in close proximity to the officer when the incident occurred.
Officer Salin Chrim was in the parking lot at the school at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday when her holstered firearm discharged due to what the department called a “suspected malfunction.”
Officer Chrim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This was the second time Chrim was injured while on duty. On May 10, 2024 she was stabbed in the arm by Alexander Yepez-Ortega who seconds later was shot and killed by police.
