City on the hunt for new planning commissioner – once again
• Applications due Dec. 18
Ceres city seal new

Just weeks after appointing Francisco Mireles to the Ceres Planning Commission, the city is on the search for applicants to fill yet another vacancy on the same panel.

The Ceres City Council had the option of appointing the second applicant for the new opening caused by the sudden resignation of Commissioner Ishwar Gil. The council chose not to appoint Kelly Cerny, preferring to advertise for applicants to potentially attract more applicants.

The appointee will only serve until Dec. 31, 2026, which is the ending of Gil’s term.

The Commission is a permanent advisory committee of five citizens appointed by the mayor and subject to confirmation by the City Council. The Commission considers land use matters such as zone changes, conditional use permits, variances, subdivisions and general plan amendments.

To be eligible to serve on the commission which meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. one must reside within the Ceres city limits.

Members serve four-year staggered terms.

Applications are available at Ceres City Hall, 2220 Magnolia Street or on the city’s website at www.ceres.gov under Community Spotlights. Applications must be completed and returned to the Office of the City Clerk by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. Appointments are made by the City Council.

For more information, call the City Clerk’s Office at 209-538-5731 or emailing cityclerk@ceres.gov.
