The Ceres Unified School District is now enrolling children in full-day transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.

To aid families who have not yet completed the enrollment process, the district will host a TK/Kindergarten Registration Fair on Tuesday, April 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Argus/Endeavor Multiuse Room, 2555 Lawrence Street, Ceres.

“This event is as much a celebration of our youngest learners as it is an opportunity for their families to get to know us, receive assistance with enrolling their children, and begin to access the many resources available to support learning,” said Kirsten Saint, CUSD’s director of Elementary Education. “We hosted our first district-wide registration fair last year and the response from families was overwhelmingly positive. This year, we have even more in store.”

Free taco dinners, children’s activities and resources will be offered and teachers will be on hand to meet incoming students and their families. Newly enrolled TK and Kindergarten students will receive a free backpack containing books and school supplies to help get their educational journey off to a strong start. An onsite vaccination clinic will provide required childhood immunizations, in partnership with the Stanislaus Health Services agency.

To be eligible for transitional kindergarten, children must be at least four years old as of June 2, 2024. Enrolling kindergartners must be at least five years old by Sept. 1, 2024.

“Transitional kindergarten serves as a stepping stone to kindergarten, equipping young children with foundational skills for success later in school,” said Saint.

CUSD also has a preschool program for younger children.

In addition to quality instruction by credentialed teachers, CUSD offers free after-school care until 6 p.m., student Chromebooks, strong social-emotional supports, free school meals and free summer programs.

To complete the registration process, families are encouraged to bring their child’s birth certificate and immunization record, a utility bill, and a second proof of residence to the registration fair.
