Details released on Nov. 5 crash into Ceres Police patrol car
Crash

Ceres Police released details about the first crash involving an intoxicated driver hitting a patrol vehicle.

The Nov. 5 crash was the first of two in a five-day period in which female DUI suspects collided with Ceres Police vehicles. The Courier reported on the crash involving DUI suspect Cynthia Rae Winkler, 64, of Ceres hitting a SUV parked in the 2300 block of Herndon Road but information was late in coming on the first crash.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., Ceres Police arrested Adriana Lopez Sanchez who was passed out behind the wheel of a Buick at the stoplight at Hatch Road and Richland Avenue. Officers saw open containers of alcoholic inside the car and rightly assumed she had been drinking. Before rousing her, officers blocked the Buick in with their patrol vehicles to prevent her from leaving. When they knocked on her window Sanchez acknowledged the officers and attempted to drive off but struck the unit in front of her. Sanchez was removed from the vehicle and detained on suspicion of DUI.

Sanchez, who reeked of alcohol, failed field sobriety tests and blowing into the breathalyzer showed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was nearly three times the legal limit to drive.

Due to multiple injury collisions occurring in the same time frame, Sanchez was released on a citation as her vehicle was taken from her.
