The Stanislaus Animal Services Agency has a new trailer to help save pets from a negative fate thanks to a $60,000 donation from Petco Love, a national nonprofit devoted to the welfare of animals.

The gift has allowed SASA to buy a state-of-the-art trailer capable of accommodating up to 16 large dogs, meaning fewer trips to shelters and rescues and thus avoiding overcrowding at the shelter and possible euthanasia.

The Petco Love donation also has paid to retrofit a large van, equipped with built-in cages and capable of pulling the trailer, allowing SASA to transport as many as 24 dogs in a single trip.

SASA’s transport program has been instrumental in reducing the overcrowded dog population at the shelter. By partnering with shelters and rescues throughout the western states and Canada, SASA has expanded its reach, contributing to the overall success of its live release rate.

“SASA is very grateful for Petco Love’s lifesaving investment in the transport program,” said Vaughn Maurice, director of SASA. “This generous grant from Petco Love will not only transform the way we transport dogs but will also play a crucial role in saving more pet lives. It aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing the best possible care for the animals in our care.”

Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $375 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts.
