WAR to play at Fair
The iconic band “WAR” is booked for a Friday, July 8 show on the Stanislaus County Fair’s Coors Light Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. It is the first band booked by the Fair.

The Stanislaus County Fair will welcome one of the most iconic rock bands “WAR”, Friday, July 8 on the Coors Light Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. The concert will be hosted by The Hawk, 104.1 and is free with the price of admission.

“We are excited to welcome this legendary street band to the fair this year,” said Jose Piña, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “They have amazing hits that I know our guests are going to love!”

Formed in 1969, War is a musical crossover band that fuses elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, psychedelia, and reggae.

Multi-platinum-selling WAR, the original street band, has been sharing its timeless music and message of brotherhood and harmony for almost five decades before millions across the globe. WAR has sold more than 50 million records since its formation to include 10 Billboard Top 10 hits. Top 40 hits include the timeless classics “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Low Rider,” “The World Is a Ghetto,” “The Cisco Kid,” and many more. WAR’s influence is still felt in modern times.

People still ask WAR founding member Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan, now 73, why his band is called WAR. He says it’s not based on the violent act that has plagued humanity from the start but noted “our choice of weapons is our instruments, which only shoot rhythm and melody and harmony. And harmony brings people together.”

More recently, LA Weekly declared WAR in the top 10 concerts of 2018. WAR has not only sealed their status as a household name, but has also proven that their music and messages continue to be as relevant as ever today as they have always been.
