Grayson Road home destroyed by fire
Grayson fire
This photo, shot through the windshield of a responding Hughson Fire vehicle, shows that a Grayson Road home was fully involved Tuesday evening.

A Grayson Road home northeast of Keyes was completely destroyed by fire Tuesday evening but its occupants found their way to safety.

The fire broke out at approximately 4:45 p.m. between Tegner and Mountain View roads northeast of Keyes. Hughson Fire was dispatched to the report of a working structure fire and the first arriving firefighters, noting heavy smoke coming from the home, requested for additional units. The fire threatened other structures as crews immediately set up for a defensive fire attack after determining that all occupants were out. The threat of spreading to the exposures was mitigated and the fire was contained to the burning home. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also destroyed.

Approximately 40 fire personnel responded to the fire, including Hughson and four vehicles and two chiefs, Ceres with two engines and a battalion chief, Keyes, Stanislaus Consolidated, Turlock Rural, Turlock City, Mountain View and Modesto. Denair Fire backed up the Hughson station for coverage.

The fire occurred on an already busy day for Hughson Fire crews who responded to six calls before the large structure fire.
