The Hughson Unified School District, in partnership with the city of Hughson, Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex Steering Committee and Scranton and Hughson Post 872 of the American Legion, will cut the ribbon to the Veterans Memorial Wall at the Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10.

The Veterans Memorial Wall is located at the entrance to the Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex and adjacent to the Deputy Dennis Wallace Soccer Fields. It consists of a wall and steel plaque with the names of service personnel from Hughson who lost their lives while fighting in wars.

A section on the plaque is also reserved for individuals in law and order with Hughson roots who also died on duty. The concrete decorative wall will have three flag poles to fly the national and state flags in addition to others, such as the POW flag.

The ceremony will bring together school officials and staff, dignitaries, military families, public safety personnel, community partners and Hughson families to pay tribute to Hughson's fallen heroes.

David Smith will perform the National Anthem and local bagpiper Phil McGill will play "Amazing Grace."

Other ceremony will include the laying of the wreath, reading of names of fallen heroes, playing of taps and a special tribute to veterans. The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will be immediately followed by a short reception with light refreshments.

The Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex parking and the entrance (on Locust Street) will be reserved for families of the fallen heroes, dignitaries and those with disabled placards.

The public is invited to park at the Hughson High School, Fox Elementary, Ross Middle School, Samaritan Village, Hughson Arboretum and Gardens and St. Anthony's Church. Street parking is also available. With the exception of those parking at Hughson High School and entering through the stadium and the Hughson Arboretum and Gardens and entering through the access gate, others are encouraged to use the main entrance to the complex off of Mariposa Drive.

Limited shuttle service will be provided for the elderly by city staff.
