Harvest Festival, Community yard sale, dinner & movie night

A number of new Ceres community activities are on the calendar this fall thanks to the Ceres Lions Club and Ceres Chamber of Commerce.

The events include:

• The Ceres Lions Club Harvest Festival on Sept. 30;
• A Community Yard Sale being organized by the Ceres Chamber for Oct. 7;

• "Dinner and A Movie" Night on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The Ceres Lions Club will host its Harvest Festival from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Ceres Community Center. The event - for persons 21 and older only - will highlight area craft beers and spirits, wines from local vintners, local foods and food samples, cigar tobacconist samplers with bottled water and soda available. The event will also feature door prizes, a silent auction, raffle and a Second Amendment drawing.
All proceeds will go toward high school scholarships. Tickets are $20 for advanced by calling 226-5013 or at the Chamber of Commerce office, 2904 Fourth Street; or $25 at the door.

Yard sale set
The Ceres Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the city of Ceres, will host a Community-Wide Yard Sale at the Ceres Community Center parking lot, 2701 Fourth Street in downtown Ceres on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spaces are limited so early registration is urged. Persons wanting to join in should complete the registration form (available at cereschamber.com) to reserve a 10' x 10' space for $25. Additional spaces may be purchased at the same rate. Funds raised will benefit the Ceres Parks & Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Participants may pay by cash, check or money order at the Ceres Chamber of Commerce, 2904 Fourth Street. Please make checks payable to Ceres Community Foundation. For additional information, call the Ceres Chamber office at 537-2601.

Participants must live within the Ceres city limits or sphere of influence, provide their own canopy, tables, chairs, etc., (bring weights to hold down canopies in the event it is windy). All are responsible to make sure all items are picked up and area is cleaned by 2 p.m. All clothing must be clean, no stains, no tears, no missing buttons. All small appliances must be in working condition and clean. Dishes, glasses, silverware must be clean and not broken and no cracks or chips. All toys must be clean and in working condition. Games must have all the pieces. Books must have all their pages. VHS videos, CDs and all music must be playable or in working order. No bedding, mattresses, pillow cases, undergarments may be sold. No arts and craft vendors will be allowed.

Dinner & a Movie
The Ceres Chamber of Commerce will host a weather-permitting "Dinner and A Movie" Night at Whitmore Park at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The event will celebrate the arrival of fall with dinner by Pastas Pronto, soon opening in downtown Ceres, and the showing of the Hitchcock suspense thriller "North by Northwest."

Served will be salad, bread, and choice of Chicken Alfredo, Capelline Pomodoro or Eggplant Parmesan and chocolate cake.

Advance ticket sales are $30 per person or $50 per couple.

The bar will sell beer and wine at $5.

Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m. with buffet style dinner served at 6 p.m. and movie at 7:30 p.m.

Free popcorn will be served during the movie.

Tickets may be purchased by phoning 537-2601 or at the Ceres Chamber of Commerce office, 2904 Fourth Street, Ceres; or online at ceresdinnerandamovie.eventbrite.com (a convenience fee will apply). Ticket sales will end Oct. 16 and will not be sold at the event.
