Man dies on 99
Collision north of Hatch Road
Ceres Cop Car

A man struck by two vehicles as he was lying in the fast lane of northbound Highway 99 was pronounced dead at the scene early Monday.

Authorities are looking into why the man, who has not been identified, was in the road or if he was dead before being struck at 12:40 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol said that the man was in the number one lane north of Hatch Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Kings Beach resident Victor Jimenez. The driver didn't see the man until it was too late to avert running him over.

A driver behind Jimenez reported seeing the car strike something with sparks flying when a car part hit the asphalt as it ran over the man. Connor Heaslett of Turlock told the CHP that he didn't have time to react and struck the body also.
