Man fights for life following crash
• Pedestrian struck by car as he tried crossing Mitchell Road at the Walmart entrance
Crash

A 33-year-old male pedestrian was clinging to life after being struck by a car while crossing Mitchell Road crash Monday evening.

The man was hit at approximately 8:08 p.m. at the signalized entrance to the Walmart parking lot just north of the Mitchell and Service Road intersection.

Preliminary findings of the Ceres Police investigation indicate the driver of the vehicle was northbound on Mitchell Road with a green light when the man attempted to cross the road. After interviewing the driver, police ruled out alcohol being a factor in the collision.

Officers who first arrived on scene began rendering life-saving medical aid until Modesto Fire personnel and paramedics assumed advanced medical care. The injured man was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Traffic Unit’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) began investigating.

Northbound lanes of Mitchell Road were closed for several hours while MAIT officers processed the scene as traffic was diverted around the site.
