Officer does good deed for citizen in family emergency
Ceres Cop Car

A newly appointed Police sergeant went above and beyond the call of duty when a Ceres mother called his department asking for assistance during a family emergency.

Ceres resident Jamie Light called Ceres Police Department on April 28 asking for help following her 16-year-old son being stricken with a grand mal seizure at Donnelly Park in Turlock and being rushed to Emanuel Medical Center. She explained that her car was recently repossessed and that she had no means or money to pick him up.

Sgt. Travis Hudson answered the 10:16 p.m. call by picking her up and giving her a ride to the hospital. Before he left, however, he took $65 from the the Sergeant's Community Jar in the watch officer's office - change collected to help those in need - and presented her with money to take a taxi ride back home.

She was appreciative of the gesture, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber.
