This patrol car was broadsided with Sgt. James Yandell inside on Saturday morning at Whitmore Avenue at the 99 offramp.

Watch commander Sgt. James Yandell sustained minor injuries Saturday morning in a car collision on Whitmore Avenue near the Highway 99 overpass as he was en route to a call.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident to determine who was at fault.

At 7:57 a.m. Yandell was on his way to assist an officer who asked for help in a traffic stop. Yandell was travelling westbound on Whitmore Avenue when the collision occurred in the intersection at the northbound Highway 99 offramp. The patrol car was T-boned by a Honda Element. Its occupants sustained minor injuries and they were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

Yandell was not seriously injured but "he did take it in the driver's door pretty hard," said Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith.
