Planners OK new cell phone tower

Verizon received permission to erect a 90-foot-tall cell phone tower in southwest Ceres on Monday.

The Ceres Planning Commission voted 3-0 to approve a Conditional Use Permit for the tower at 4107 Morgan Road immediately west of the Ceres wastewater treatment plant.

The tower will be sized to accommodate other carriers in the future.

Verizon wants to expands its coverage capacity in the area which in close proximity to residences in southwest Ceres.
A 25-foot by 40-foot area of ground will be leased for the tower and generator building.

Approving the change were commissioners Robert Kachel, Gary Del Nero and Hugo Molina. Commissioner Laurie Smith was absent. A vacancy on the panel was created by the resignation of Dave Chapman.
