Ceres Police are investigating the suspicious cause of death of woman whose body was found Saturday morning near a bush at the northwest area of the Kmart parking lot.

The body of Clara Wiley, 47, was found by a store employee. Reportedly a transient, Wiley was found lying face up on the ground and reported to police at 8:20 a.m. The woman appeared to have been dead for quite some time.

Initially officers suggested there were no signs of foul play and no signs of a struggle or visible injuries. However, the Sheriff’s Coroner office conducted an autopsy and suggested Wiley may have died under suspicious circumstances with internal and some external signs of being run over by a large truck, possibly a tractor-trailer rig while she was lying down in the parking lot.

The case is being investigated by Ceres Police detectives. They are hoping anyone with information or knowledge about the woman or her death will call Officer Kessler at 538-5620, or call the Crime Stoppers line at 521-4636.
