The man who was shot and critically injured early Thursday in the 2300 block of Moffett Road was armed and breaking into a home, Ceres Police disclosed on Friday.

Anthony Robledo, 23, of Ceres, was shot multiple times at 4:11 a.m. during the apparent attempted break-in. Police arrived on scene and found Robledo in the backyard of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers rendered first aid to Robledo until firefighters and paramedics arrived. He was transported to a local area hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Investigators learned that Robledo was armed with a gun as he tried to enter the rear of the home through a bedroom window. A resident inside the home saw Robledo carrying a gun and began firing at the intruder several times.

Police are unsure why Robledo chose to target the home.

The incident will be reviewed by the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
