The Ceres Relay for Life will take place April 12-13 and has a goal of raising $35,000.

The committee is urging anyone who wants to be a part of a Relay team or any cancer survivors to be honored at this year's event to get in touch with a member soon.

The goal is to have 50 survivors signed up for the March 25 survivor and caregiver dinner at 6 p.m. at the Ceres High School cafeteria. Fifty cancer survivors are also sought for the Relay morning breakfast as well as walk the first lap but "we are not quite there yet," said Committee chairman Angela Durrossette.

Cancer survivors who would like to be a part of the events are urged to email Durossette at adurossette@ceresk12.ca.us.

The team has currently raised over $25,000 toward the $35,000 goal. Those funds have been raised through a number of events, including a Feb. 28 "Stand Up" comedy show held at the Gallo Centre in Modesto and this weekend's Hoedown dinner, dance, and silent and live auctions

The 24-member Ceres Relay for Life Committee has a goal of 40 teams to work the track and raise funds during the Relay.

Funds raised in Ceres will be used to support the myriads of services and research by the ACS. Besides the medical research, the ACS offers emotional support to cancer patients and families, and volunteers provide rides for patients to chemotherapy treatments.
