The Rotary Club of Ceres honored two girls as “Students of the Month” in recent weeks. On Oct. 10 the club joined Cesar Chavez Junior High School to recognize seventh-grader Mona Leon and then on Friday, Oct. 17 the club honored Blaker-Kinser Junior High eighth-grader Miranda Diaz.

Mona Leon is in her school’s Dual Language Immersion program and started the year strong by earning all A’s in her first grading period. She is also active in the Cadet Corps and has expressed interest in serving on the School Site Council. Mona is known for her kindness and her sense of responsibility. In fact, she is the type of student you might see picking up trash because she believes in doing the right thing and wants the school to look its best.

Off campus, Mona has earned a black belt in taekwondo and looks forward to teaching others the art. She has also played soccer. After high school she hopes to attend a university to study chemistry with the aim of discovering new medicine to cure diseases.

Miranda Diaz

On October 17, the Rotary Club of Ceres and Blaker-Kinser Jr. High School recognized eighth-grader Miranda Diaz as its Rotary Student of the Month.

She was selected for her leadership, service and commitment to her school and community.

At Blaker-Kinser, Ms. Diaz is known for being a dependable and kind student who consistently supports her peers and staff. She has served in ASB for the past two years and is an active member of School Site Council and the Blaker Serves Club, which encourages students to give back to their community.

Her dedication to helping others is evident both on campus and beyond. Miranda is a volunteer at her church assisting younger children and often returns to her elementary school to help the Student Support Specialist with TK–6th grade students. She collaborated with the Student Support specialist, to present the “12 Tools,” showing her ability to lead with confidence and compassion.

Her commitment to service began in third grade when she started helping staff and students at Hidahl Elementary.

Looking ahead, Miranda strives to become a teacher so she can continue to inspire and guide students. With her kindness, leadership, and service, she is a deserving recipient of this recognition.
