The Ceres Library is hosting a number of special events and activities this month.
The library will host a Ceres LEGO Day at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11. Children will have the opportunity to build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO and Duplo blocks. This program helps young ones develop critical thinking skills, and teaches basic engineering concepts. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct parental supervision.
Read to a dog
Independent readers up to age 12 are invited to practice their reading skills with the special Read to a Dog program at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Ceres Library. This program is designed to help children gain confidence in their reading skills by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Register in person at the Ceres Library or call 209-537-8938.
Cookie decorating
A cookie decorating session will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. Bring creative ideas to this delicious decorating program! We will provide cookies, frosting, and festive sprinkles for kids to create unique cookie creations.
New Year Notebooks
Learn how to make New Year Notebooks at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22. Learn how to fold paper into mini notebooks to have for the upcoming year! We will use old magazines, markers, and stickers to personalize them. They might be used as diaries, vision boards, a place for to-do lists, or New Year’s resolutions. This program is intended for ages 12 and up.

Hughson library
The Hughson Library will offer a “Starting Seeds for Spring” lecture at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Offered by Master Gardeners, attendees can learn how to grow their own warm-season vegetables from seed instead of purchasing plants next year. UCCE Master Gardeners of Stanislaus County will cover the supplies, setup, and tips for successful germination of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, flowers, and more.
The Hughson Library will host a 3-D pen art session at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Learn the how to use a 3D pen and basic safety and handling techniques to make creations using patterns or your own original designs. This program is designed for ages 9 and up. Also at the Hughson Library will be a PJs & Puzzles Party, set for the open hours on Tuesday, Dec. 23. Put on your comfiest PJs and join us for a relaxing day of puzzles.
All Stanislaus County library branches will be closed on Dec. 24-25.
