Supermom’s Frozen Yogurt & More hosted a two-hour floral design session Thursday evening as part of its innovative “Mom’s Social Club” program to attract more business.
Kyndall Borden, wife of co-owner George Borden, hosted the “Friends & Floral” session, with nine women attending after purchasing a $50 ticket. They sampled wine and other items from the menu while learning how to make their own floral arrangement.
“We are going to be doing a lot of future events,” said Cecilia Campbell, who was newly hired as a marketing manager. “Some will be catered to adults and many will be catered to children.”
“I’m not good at flower arrangements so for me this is a good learning experience,” said Denise Pallios Garrison who came with friend Adrian Booth. “I’m enjoying it. It’s something you learn to do when you recently retire.”
Participants were also invited to sample wines to give their opinions of which ones would make a good wine-flavored yogurt.
The event allowed the women to try wines complimented by certain flavors of frozen yogurts – a list formulated by Supermom’s. For example, La Marca Prosecco was paired up with cheesecake or strawberry froyos. Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc goes well with Pineapple Dole Whip flavored frozen yogurt. The crisp acidity of Fleur de Mer Rose cuts through the richness of creamy flavors like cheesecake. Lastly, the shop recommends MacMurray Pinot Nior consumed with chocolate or vanilla froyos.
“We are working on offering kind of like wine-flavored froyo in the future but we’re still working on the recipes,” said Campbell.
The product will be made in-house at the shop which is located within the Richland Shopping Center in Ceres.
Shop co-owner Tina Borden said Supermom’s recently acquired its wine and beer license and recently started attempting to mix soju (a Korean rice wine) with frozen yogurt to mix frozen cocktails “but it’s not quite there.”
Supermom’s has also experimented to blend soju with a shot of espresso and an espresso milkshake.
“Now we add the soju to it with the shot and then blend it with the yogurt and it becomes our version of an espresso martini,” said Tina Borden.
Like many small businesses that lost sales volume during the pandemic and its fallout, Supermom’s is trying new things to bring back customers. Tina Borden said business was less competitive since Supermom’s opened 15 years ago with the addition of more businesses like the Ceres Gateway Center.
Another event was held Monday to offer coffee and donuts to allow families to spend time and mingle with other moms and parents and grandparents in an effort to “create this little community.”
Supermom’s is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays (closed Sundays). The business may be reached at 209-537-3100.
