A memorial service was held Friday at the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Accursio Joseph Bellizzi, 86, of Hughson. He died Dec. 29, 2011.

Born Sept. 26, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pa., to Dominic and Mary Bellizzi, Joseph lived there until December, 1941, when he enlisted in the Army at age 16. He served as a radio operator in the South Pacific until his discharge. He married Dorothy Parinella in 1947 in Philadelphia and moved to California in 1951. He worked as n OTC securities trader for Walston & Co. in San Francisco before moving to Modesto in 1956 to become a stockbroker. He opened an office for Brush Slocumb & Co. in 1961, serving as branch manager. The office affiliated with Bateman, Eichler, Hill, Richards, Inc. in 1971 and in 1977, he left BEHR to join Dean Witter & Co. as branch manager. After his divorce in 1989, he moved to Palm Desert and retired in 1993. He met and married Beverly Wayte in 1998. They lived in Palm Desert until 2010 when they relocated to Samaritan Village in Hughson. Mr. Bellizzi was an avid golfer and gin rummy player. He was a member of Del Rio Country club for over 20 years, serving as club president in 1974-75. He was a member of Spyglass Hill Golf Club in Pebble Beach since 1971.

He leaves behind his wife, Beverly Bellizzi of Hughson; his sons, John C. Bellizzi of Modesto and Marc C. Bellizzi of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and his grandson, Matthew J. Bellizzi of Hayward. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Joseph D. Bellizzi.
